The schedule lists awards on Friday and Saturday at 8pm. Will the middle school be Friday and high school on Saturday? We are trying to organize a viewing party for the club but need to choose a night. Thanks

Shanklincj Instead of divvying up the awards by class (middle school / high school), we will do awards by event (Engineering Design, Team Interview, Real-World Innovation, Pool Courses & Community and Outreach). We'll be publishing a more detailed schedule soon so you'll be able to determine which night will work better for your group!

Will there still be a overall middle school and high school winning team?

Shanklincj There will not be an overall middle or high school award. A full list of awards have just been posted on the website!

Thank you. The awards don’t differentiate for PVC vs Other Materials? The rules had them as separate classes and leads teams to believe PVC wouldn’t be competing against other materials like 3D. Other materials has a advantage over pvc in the pool course and also for innovations it can do for the technical report.

Quick question about the final virtual ceremony. Do participating teams need to get tickets, or was it included in the registration? Happy to purchase tickets, just didn't know if we already had. Looking forward to see what everyone came up with this season. Thanks!!

You're right, we are not delineating awards by division within classes. As noted in the rules section of the 2021 Season webpage, the "International Challenge classes will include Middle School and High School. The optional Pool Course event will utilize the traditional Middle School Stock, High School Stock, and Open Class designations."

The divisions (PVC vs. Other Materials) do not have an impact on judge scoring for the technical design report. Judge reviews and scores are based on the team's discussion of their design approach so whether a team opted to utilize PVC only or try out other materials, the scores will be based on the team's approach to their design and how they communicate that.

For the pool courses, you're right that the Other Materials division has more flexibility by using 3D printed parts. However, that added flexibility doesn't automatically mean better design or ROV performance. We wish we had been able to offer awards at the division level, but unfortunately with the Pool Courses being an optional event this year, the total number of teams participating in that event is much smaller than a typical year. We appreciate your feedback and will keep it in consideration as we plan for the 2022 season and beyond. Thank you!
